Dramatic Rally Falls Short

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Trevecca (5-1) men's basketball team fell for the first time this season to Cedarville University (4-2) 78-73 in the championship game of the 32nd Annual Cedarville Invitational.

Michael France and Keith Morris were named to the All-Tournament team.

Cedarville started the game with 10-2 advantage and didn't let up till the second half. The Yellowjackets pushed their advantage to 15-4 with 14:59 remaining in the first half. By the end of the first half Cedarville had built a 18-point (41-23) lead.

In the second half Trevecca made several runs. With 16:34 remaining the CU lead was cut to 45-34. The Yellowjackets expanded their lead to 20 points (58-38) with 11:36 to go. With 5:54 to go Cedarville maintained a 19-point (74-55) lead. Trevecca began a furious rally to try and loosen the Cedarville grip on the game. With :25 seconds remaing in the game the Trojans cut the Yellowjackets lead to just four (77-73) points. The 18-3 run was nearly enough, but CU was able to stall the Trojan rally and claimed a 78-73 victory.

Michael France paced the Trojans with a season-high 26 points after hitting 12-19 from the field and 2-6 from three-point range. Keith Morris (16) and Marquise Rudollph (10) also reached double figures. Rudolph led the team with nine rebounds and had four assists. Morris and J.P. Nyadaro had eight rebounds apiece. Matthew Elliott had a team-high seven assists.

As a team Trevecca shot 44% (32-72) from the field, 18% (3-17) from beyond the arc, and 67% (6-9) from the foul line. Trevecca outrebounded Cedarville 43-39. TNU had nine turnovers to seven from CU. The home team shot 45% (27-60) from the field, 38% (9-24) from beyond the arch, and 52% (15-29) from the foul line.

Trevecca will host the Nazarene Classic @ Trevecca over the Thanksgiving weekend. On Friday Trevecca will host MidAmerica Nazarene (4-2) at 7 p.m. Saturday the Trojans face Southern Nazarene (4-1) at 4 p.m.
