Selby came to Trevecca from Arlington (Tenn.) High School near Memphis, Tenn. It was there he coached the Tigers boys' cross country as well as track and field. He coached the cross country team to its first-ever Region 7AAA Championship. Despite having a depleted roster, the team finished in the top 20. The track team finished 11th at the 2013 TSSAA Championships, including a runner-up finish in the 4x200 meter and 4x400 meter. The team had three other top 10 finishes. In addition, five of Selby's athletes signed NCAA athletic scholarships for the coming year.

Selby coaching stops include the Independence High School (Thompson Station, Tenn.) boys' track and field team in 2012, leading the team to a 5th place finish at the 2013 TSSAA State Championships and a TSSAA State Championship in the 4x800 meter relay. In the process, he helped four of his athletes earn NCAA scholarships. The team also produced four other top-10 finishes, including a runner-up finish at the 400-meter distance.

Selby's running history is quite impressive too. He ran for Centennial High School (Franklin, Tenn.), qualifying for the TSSAA State Cross Country meet twice. His personal best marathon time is 2:49:06 at the New York City Marathon. After coming back from being hit by an out-of-control 70-mph car, he returned to run a 3:02:32 marathon time. His success and experience have made him a sought-after private marathon coach.

For seven years, he worked for Campus Crusade for Life out of Orlando, Fla. His work included a year on staff in Karakol, Kyrgyzstan.

He has also worked as a course director for the St. Jude Marathon.

Selby is a 2006 graduate of the University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Arts in history.

Selby earned his Master of Teaching in secondary education and a Masters of Business Administration. In 2011, he completed his United States Track and Field Coaching Certification. In 2013 he finished his USTF Coaching Level-ll Endurance Certification.

Austin and his wife Shawna have eight children: Cade, David, Jonathan, Sadie, Gray, Helena, Maggie, Thoreau.
