Sarah Daws joined the Trevecca softball coaching staff as the associate head coach for the 2020 season. Since joining the Trojans, Daws helped Trevecca to a 15-3 start her first season, a COVID-19 shortened season. Then in 2021, Daws helped the Trojans reach the 2021 NCAA Midwest Regional.
Daws spent the previous 12 seasons as an assistant softball coach at UT Martin, where she played collegiately. Daws, a four-year member of the Skyhawk softball program as a catcher from 2001-04, worked primarily with the pitchers and catchers and provided hitting instruction.
During Trevecca's 2020-2021 season, the Trojans finished the year 27-14 and ended at the NCAA Regional Tournament in Grand Rapids, MI. The Trevecca Trojans finished the regular season as 2021 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Champions and finished second in the 2021 G-MAC Tournament. In her first season, the team started 15-3 and was ranked No. 10 in the country before the season ended early due to COVID-19 restrictions.
"With the 2020 season being interrupted, these girls didn't let down and worked hard, finishing strong and making it all the way to the NCAA Midwest Regional," said Daws about the 2021 Trojans. "I am super blessed and honored to work with Coach Tyree and coach great student-athletes at Trevecca."
Before Trevecca, Daws spent 12 seasons with the UT Martin Softball program working under Donley Canary. She coached two OVC Players of the Year along with a pair of OVC Pitchers of the Year. Since joining the staff in 2008, the Skyhawks have boasted four National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region athletes, 17 All-OVC first-team recipients, 14 All-OVC second-team honorees, and 14 All-Newcomers.
During the 2017 season, the Skyhawks tallied 39 wins and clinched the program's third postseason berth with an at-large selection into the inaugural National Invitational Softball Championship.
In 2015, Daws helped mentor senior 1B/P Kenzi Tate, an All-OVC first-team honoree, leading the team in all three Triple Crown categories.
Daws spent the 2013 season working with Tate, a sophomore, leading the team with a 20-6 record and a 2.79 ERA en route to All-OVC first team, OVC All-Tournament team NFCA Division I All-Region honors.
2012 proved to be a banner year for the Skyhawks as they clinched the program's second OVC regular season crown. Headlining the team was OVC Pitcher of the Year and OVC Tournament Most Valuable Player Chelsea Jones. In addition to their second OVC regular season title, the Skyhawks won the OVC Tournament and advanced to their second NCAA Regional.
In 2011, Daws worked with pitcher Amanda Brandenburg, who was named the league's Freshman of the Year, All-OVC first team, and All-Newcomer team.
The Skyhawks posted the program's first OVC regular season title in 2010 behind OVC Pitcher of the year and All-OVC first-team Paij Lintz. She also coached pitcher Kate Vanderham and catcher Laurie Lindow, both All-OVC first-team selections. The Skyhawks would set a program record with 47 wins and 14 shutouts as a pitching staff.
Joining the coaching staff in 2008, Daws was an integral part of the team's 2009 run through the OVC Softball Championship – ranking as the first team to ever drop its first game in the double-elimination tournament and post five consecutive wins en route to winning the tournament title and punch the program's first trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Before returning to her alma mater, Daws was at Mill Creek High School, where she was a special education teacher and served as an assistant coach with the varsity softball program and as head coach of the junior varsity program.
Before her coaching career at UT Martin, Daws was the opening day catcher all four years of her Skyhawk career. Daws earned the team defensive award in 2001 and the golden glove in 2003. In addition, she earned accolades on the conference level, being named All-OVC Honorable Mention in 2002 and All-OVC Second Team in 2003. Daws still appears in the program's record books 13 times and is among the top-five in five categories.
Daws is the daughter of Barbara Daws and has one older brother, Geordy. She attended Brentwood High School, a two-sport athlete in softball and volleyball. Daws collected all-district accolades on the diamond in 1998, 1999, and 2000. She was named to the all-district tournament team in 1999 and 2000 and the all-region team in 2000. She led her team to district championships in 1997, 1998, and 2000, regional championships in 1997, 1998, and 2000, and a sub-state championship in 1998.
Daws graduated from UT Martin in 2004 with a degree in Special Education and received her master's degree in 2010 in Education.
