SECTION I

PURPOSE AND POLICIES

Purpose

The Trevecca Nazarene University Athletics Hall of Fame exists to recognize and honor individuals and teams who have made significant and lasting contributions to the University's intercollegiate athletics program.

Induction into the Hall of Fame represents one of the highest honors bestowed by Trevecca Nazarene University.

Selection for the Hall of Fame is based upon:

• Athletic Achievement
• Coaching Excellence
• Administrative Leadership
• Staff Contributions
• Meritorious Service
• Impact on Trevecca Athletics and its mission

This manual establishes the official policies and procedures for nominating, selecting, and inducting individuals into the Trevecca Nazarene University Athletics Hall of Fame.

 

SECTION II

COMMITTEE STRUCTURE AND GOVERNANCE

I. Committee Membership

The Hall of Fame Committee shall consist of 14 total members (13 voting members)

The Director of Athletics will serve as Chair of the Hall of Fame Committee OR will appoint a voting committee member as Chair

 

Five Ex-Officio Members                 (1 approving member, 4 voting members)

• University President                                     (approves ballot and final vote, non-voting member)
• Director of Athletics                                      (voting member)
• Sports Information Director                          (voting member)
• Faculty Athletic Representative                   (voting member)
• President of the Purple and White Club      (voting member)

 

Three Appointed Members              (3 voting members)

• Three members appointed by Director of Athletics
• Three-year staggered terms
• Eligible for reappointment at Director of Athletics discretion

 

Six Elected Members                       (6 voting members)

• Six elected members
• Two elected annually
• Three-year staggered terms
• Recommended by Director of Athletics
• Elected by full committee

 

Term Guidelines

• No consecutive terms unless filling unexpired vacancy
• One-year rotation required before reappointment
• Terms align with fiscal year (July 1-June 30)

 

Executive Committee:

The Executive Committee shall consist of:

·       Director of Athletics

·       Sports Information Director

·       Three Appointed Members of the Hall of Fame Committee

 

The Executive Committee is responsible for:

·       Reviewing nominations

·       Preparing ballots

·       Overseeing the voting process

·       Maintaining the Hall of Fame Nominee Database

 

Hall of Fame Committee Members Responsibilities:

  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Review nominees thoroughly
  • Attend meeting (in-person or virtual) to discuss nominations
  • Vote impartially
  • Uphold integrity of Hall of Fame

STUDENT-ATHLETE CRITERIA

Student-Athletes must demonstrate exceptional athletic achievement and significant impact on Trevecca Athletics.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

• Minimum two years at Trevecca
• Seven years removed from participation at Trevecca
• Completed eligibility
• Demonstrated sportsmanship and character as well as athletic achievement

 

Exceptions:

 

Non-graduates may be considered if:

·       Departed in good academic and social standing

·       Approved unanimously by Executive Committee

 

Achievement Examples:

• All-American
• Conference Player of Year
• Championships
• Record Holder
• Program Impact

 

COACH CRITERIA

 

Coaches must demonstrate outstanding contributions to Trevecca Athletics, including:

• Sustained success
• Program building
• Leadership
• Championships
• Institutional impact

 

Eligibility:

• Five years removed from Trevecca coaching career
• OR…While actively coaching after Fifteen (15) years of service

• OR…Special consideration by unanimous decision by Executive Committee

 

MERITORIOUS SERVICE CRITERIA

Individuals who made exceptional contributions to Trevecca Athletics through:

• Financial support
• Leadership
• Advocacy
• Long-term service

 

Additional Requirements

  • Minimum two (2) years removed from direct university service
  • OR…while actively serving after 15 years

·       OR…Special consideration by unanimous decision by Executive Committee

 

POSTHUMOUS INDUCTION CRITERIA

 

Posthumous nominations:

  • May be submitted at any time
  • Will be considered one-year post-obit
  • Must meet standard eligibility criteria

 

SECTION IV

NOMINATIONS AND PRE-VOTING

Nomination Sources:

  • Coaches/Staff, Alumni, and Friends of the University via Online Nomination Form
  • Hall of Fame Committee via the Nominee Database

 

Nomination Deadline:

  • Letters of recommendation should be submitted to the Hall of Fame Committee, through the Department of Athletics, by the last weekend in December
  • Submitted to Director of Athletics

 

Nominee Database and Nomination Process

 

To strengthen future nominations:

  • Maintaining a strong, fact-filled Nominee Database is key to the selection process
  • The Nominee Database (player bios) provides a majority of the selection criteria used by the Executive Committee to prepare the ballot as well as the Hall of Fame Committee to vote on the nominees
  • Sports Information Director updates database
  • Executive Committee maintains and reviews annually

 

Ballot Preparation

Executive Committee Responsibilities:

  • Select 10–20 nominees for Student-Athlete/Coach division
  • Select 0- 2 nominees for Meritorious Service division
  • Submit nominees to University President for approval
  • Prepare official ballot for the Hall of Fame Committee

 

Maximum Inductees

  • Maximum TOTAL of five (5) inductees per year (includes Athlete/Coach AND Meritorious Service)
  • Maximum one (1) Meritorious Service inductee per year

 

Confidentiality

All deliberations and voting are strictly confidential.

SECTION V

VOTING PROGRESSION AND PROCEDURES

1.         The Executive Committee meets to vet the database and write-in candidates

2.         The Executive Committee prepares the ballot with 10-20 nominees in the Athlete - Coach category and with 0-2 nominees in the Meritorious Service category

3.         The Executive Committee presents the ballot to the University President for approval

4.         The Executive Committee presents the approved ballot to the Hall of Fame Committee for voting.

5.         Hall of Fame Committee meets to discuss the nominees

6.         Hall of Fame Committee votes by ranking all nominees in order of preference

7.         The Chair of the committee collects the ballots and applies the weighted scoring system

 

ATHLETE / COACH DIVISION

Weighted Ballot System

  • Minimum 10 nominees          
  • Maximum 20 nominees         
  • Committee ranks candidates in order of preference
  • Points assigned in reverse order

 

For Example:

If 20 Nominees:

 

1st Place = 20 Points             2nd Place = 19 Points 3rd Place = 18 Points … etc.

 

Scoring:

13 - Hall of Fame Committee Voting Members
20 -Nominees

13 × 20 = 260 equals the Total Possible Points (TPP)

 

Candidate must receive:

70% of 260 = 182 points to be elected to the Athletics Hall of Fame

 

MERITORIOUS SERVICE DIVISION

  • Yes / No Ballot
  • Must receive >70% Yes votes  (13 voting members x .70 = 9.1, therefore 10 votes)
  • Maximum one inductee per year

 

Additional Voting Rules

  • Maximum of five total inductees per year
  • If there is one Meritorious Service inductee, then a maximum of four Athlete/Coach category inductees.
  • If there are no Meritorious Service inductees, then a maximum of five Athlete/Coach category inductees.
  • If more than five Athlete/Coach nominees exceed threshold, lowest score is removed
  • Committee determines final selections
  • Quorum is determined as majority vote

 

SECTION VI

 

ANNOUNCEMENT AND INDUCTION CEREMONY

 

Announcement

  • Chair and/or representative informs inductees privately
  • Formal press release issued
  • Announced via:

o   Trevecca Athletics Website

o   Social Media

o   Local Media

 

Induction Ceremony

• Homecoming Weekend is the target date (Saturday morning preferred)
• Formal recognition at Induction Ceremony
• Hall of Fame Plaque
• Permanent Hall of Fame Display

 

FINAL STATEMENT

 

The Trevecca Athletics Hall of Fame celebrates excellence, preserves history, and honors those who have shaped Trevecca Athletics through achievement, leadership, and service.

 

Induction into the Trevecca Nazarene University Athletics Hall of Fame represents one of the highest honors bestowed by the University.

Committee members may use the following scoring scale:

 

Excellent = 9-10
Very Good = 7-8
Good = 5-6
Fair = 3-4
Limited = 1-2

 

Scores are intended to assist committee members in ranking nominees and promoting consistency across voting.

 

The scoring rubric serves as a guide and does not replace the official weighted ballot voting procedure.
