Trevecca Softball | No. 22 Trojans Survive and Advance, Beat Malone; Face Northwood Thursday

AKRON, Ohio –NFCA No. 22 Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (42-11) opened the Great Midwest Athletic Conference tournament with a win over eighth-seed Malone University (28-19) at Firestone Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Trevecca controls a 14-5 record versus Malone including having won the last five meetings and eight of the last nine.

The Trojans outscored the Pioneers 18-2 in the pair of regular season games played in Nashville this season, but Malone had won the only postseason meeting, a 3-1 win at the 2019 G-MAC Championships.

HOW IT HAPPENED

With one out in the bottom of the first, Anna Bennett singled up the middle and stole second to stand in scoring position. Ashlan Sensing then connected for an RBI double to left field which would become the game winning hit and run. Trevecca added another run in the third once again off the bat of Sensing. This time Sensing, again batting with one away, double to left center field to score Kendall Andrews who led the frame off with a walk. Kyleigh Burgett put the icing on the cake in the sixth inning with a solo shot to left field to help the Trojans to a 3-0 win.

New to the conference prior to this season, Northwood and Trevecca split a pair of games played in Midland, Michigan earlier this season.

It was the Timberwolves who, at the time halted the Trojans' eight game winning streak only for Trevecca to win the following 11 contests after the defeat to Northwood in game two.

It will be the tenth meeting between the two schools in softball with Trevecca holding the 6-3 all-time series advantage.
